Each June, communities across Ontario celebrate June is Recreation and Parks Month (JRPM) and Seniors Month. The Community Services Department is pleased to promote and offer a variety of activities (regularly scheduled and free) for the community to enjoy.

JRPM is an initiative of Parks and Recreation Ontario (PRO) - a non-profit association of leaders in recreation and parks that advances the health, social and environmental benefits of quality recreation and parks. For more information on PRO, please visit www.prontario.org

JRPM is a movement that promotes the benefits of recreation and parks for physical, social, and environmental health. Access to parks and recreation is a fundamental human need that helps foster personal health, strong communities, and social inclusion. JRPM celebrates Ontario’s spectacular parks and recreation services and raises awareness for the role they play as a pathway to individual, community, and environmental well-being.

June is also Seniors Month in Ontario. It’s a time when we recognize our amazing older adults and the hard work seniors have done all their lives to make Ontario into the great place it is today. This year's theme is “Working Together”.

In addition to our registered programs offered through the City of Belleville, we encourage community members to get out and enjoy local parks, social and cultural amenities. The community can also participate in the ParticipACTION Community Challenge where you can log your physical activity minutes. The Challenge is a national physical activity and sport initiative that encourages everyone in Canada to get active throughout June in search of Canada’s Most Active Community. Let’s go, Belleville!
