Emergency Preparedness Week is May 7 to 13. This year’s theme is: Be Prepared. Know Your Risks. The intent of the theme is to encourage Canadians to understand the risks in their area and learn what actions they can take to protect themselves and their families. Please take the time to ensure you and your family are prepared should an emergency occur. For information, visit: https://www.getprepared.gc.ca/cnt/rsrcs/ep-wk/index-en.aspx
We will have two fire drills this week at the QSWC (one during the day, one during the night) with full evacuation required.
Fire Drill Tips
• If the alarms sound, everyone must evacuate. Remain calm. Players should make sure they have skate guards.
• Elevators cannot be used. If required, clients can remain in safe zones with staff. (safe zones are located outside the track at the east end, outside the physio and massage offices at the west end, 2nd, and 3rd floors of CAA outside the elevators and the north/east entrance of the pool).
• All pool patrons in the pool or on deck must exit the pool and stand in the “safe zone” at the north/east entrance – if a real emergency and immediate threat, facility staff would have patrons/staff exit the northeast doors to safety.
• Please exit the building as if you’re not coming back – take your coat, keys etc. and leave through the closest emergency exit.
• Make sure you are away from the emergency exits (east you should be on the median in between the lots and the west, you should be on the grass past the roadway).
• Once the emergency is over, the emergency coordinator will issue an All Clear and allow people back in the building.
We do not anticipate these drills taking any longer than 10 minutes and thank you for your patience as staff practice these important safety protocols.
