Fitness Demonstrations Descriptions

11:15 – 11:30am – Chi Kung – Sherri
Qigong (Chi Kung) is an ancient Chinese healing art and exercise form.  Practitioners can prevent illness and maintain optimum health by combining the discipline of body, mind, and “chi” (vital force).  Exercises are flowing and slow-moving, encouraging stretching, flexibility, balance, internal massage and relaxation.  Participants deepen their practice through breathing and move at their own pace in their own way.

11:30 – 11:40am – Drumming for Health with Sherri
Using a variety of percussion instruments, participants will explore rhythms, chants and songs that calm, soothe and excite the body, mind and spirit.  No experience necessary.

11:45am – 12:00pm – Diabetic Exercise with Amber
Exercise is an important part of any diabetes treatment plan.  Exercise can naturally reduce your blood sugar levels as well as benefit your health overall.  If you are afraid to start exercising or it has been a long time since you have, then this program is for you.

12:15 – 12:30pm – Stretch & Strengthen with Debbie
This workout is designed to use equipment or your own body weight to train your balance, keep your bones and joints healthy, and your heart fit and strong. By combining cardiovascular exercise, resistance training, and stretching into one class, you will be able work towards improving your total body strength, cardiovascular health, and flexibility.

12:45 – 1:00pm – Older Adult Yoga with Joanne
Hatha yoga, for older adults (50+), combines slow, steady movements with controlled breathing and simple relaxation techniques. Modifications for mature bodies are offered.

1:15 – 1:30pm – Tone & Sculpt with Jordan
All fitness levels will benefit from this outstanding total body workout. This class is designed to improve strength, flexibility, posture, coordination, and will energize you.

1:45 – 2:00pm – Chair Yoga with Kathy
Our special Chair Yoga classes are for those who no longer wish to be up and down off their mats. It offers modifications to regular yoga to accommodate those who require it.

2:15 – 2:30 pm – Senior Fit with Marek
Get fit in this low intensity program that includes a warm-up, cardiovascular exercises, muscle conditioning, balance work, stretching and cool-down.

11:00am – 12:00 pm:  Should You Stay or Should You Move?
Planning for your future helps you to live the life you want tomorrow. We will explore a tool, created by the Federal and Provincial Ministers Responsible for Seniors Forum, that is packed with advice on knowing how to plan for successful aging. This tool is a self-assessment guide that will help you determine if you should stay in your home or make a move.  Making choices now will give you greater control over your independence, quality of life and dignity.

12: 15 – 1:00 pm:  Doing Your Taxes – What’s In It For You?
Come to an information session to find out about benefit and credit payments you could get from the Canada Revenue Agency if you do your taxes every year. Representatives from the Canada Revenue Agency will share information on how benefits are calculated, how and when you should apply for benefits, and will answer any   questions you might have.
